Cathy,
Bill and I are so heart broken and stunned by the sudden passing of Phil. No words, we loved him from the moment we met him, He was/is a gentle, kind soul with a great smile that always made you feel welcome and wanted. Not to mention his love of music and of course family.
Our sincere condolences to you and the Wong family.

In his 20's and early 30's, Phil was legendary for his ability to fall asleep anywhere - at a party, sitting up between two people, in a bar, etc. Somewhere in the early 1990's, we went to see the Tragically Hip at Dr. Rocket's and we got there early enough to be on the main floor in front of the stage. This sunken floor was surrounded by railings to support counter where patrons could lean and watch the show. About 2/3's of the way through a rocking show, Phil was sound asleep, seated at the back of the main floor between the railings. Talent. True focus to fall asleep in a concert where the music is less than 25 feet away!
To give some perspective, Phil also worked his butt off at different jobs, studying and going to school so it was understandable that he was often so tired ...
I'm so sorry for your loss and his sudden departure. You should have had many more decades with him. I'm sure he will be greatly missed by many. Phil was kind to me and my sons - Forrest and Isaac Owen - and we will forever have fond memories of him.
Sincerely,
Trix Van Egmond

I am deeply sadden by the passing of my friend Phil. We had met in our early teens and had remained friends ever since. Phil was a huge Boston sports fan and music lover. Iggy Pop to Grover Washington Jr, his music appetite was large. I feel truly blessed of the time we had together, and I will miss him dearly.
Our condolences go out to Cathy and the Wong family.

Our deepest sympathies to all of Phil's family. We are so sorry to hear of his sudden passing. We met in grade 9 at Beal where we would hang out playing pinball or listening to newly purchased albums. I'm thankful he introduced me to new bands like Roxy Music, Chicago, J. Geils Band, The Tubes and his beloved Emerson, Lake and Palmer, all records I listen to now. He also introduced me to corned beef subs when we would dine at Hubs and Subs. Knowing Phil made all of us a better person.
