Obituary of Rick George Goodhand

***Please note updated service information*** Rick Goodhand July 26, 1952 – June 17, 2020 Rick passed away peacefully at his home on June 17, 2020 after a three-year battle with pancreatic cancer. His fight ended the same way it began, with his family by his side sharing memories and telling stories. Rick and Sarah Jane, married for 47 years, together they raised three children Lee Ann (Travis) Woollings, Kevin (Kate) Goodhand and April (Mike) Adair and eight grandchildren Mackenzie, Mason, Bryce, Morgan, Avery, Owen, Emma and Sofie. Son of the late Lorne (2010) and Ebba Goodhand (2017), brother of Gary (Judy) Goodhand, Sherry Anne (Terry) Siddall and Brenda (Barry) Allen, Craig(2015) (Cindy) Goodhand. Son-in -law of the late Donald (1997) and Marjorie (2007) Steadman, brother in law of David (2018) Sheryl Steadman, Ross (Kathy) Steadman. Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Rick started his career at Bell Telephone before moving to Dow chemical for 31 years. Rick and Sarah Jane were the owners of Nor Lam Furniture for 30 years. Rick would come home from work then head out to do deliveries or repair furniture for the store. Throughout their marriage Rick and Sarah Jane enjoyed travelling with family and friends, visiting most of the world. When they returned from holidays, he was always ready to take on whatever waited with his many projects at home. Rick spent fifteen years in local politics serving as Councillor and Deputy Reeve for the Town of Forest and later supported Lambton Shores for two terms as a Ward 5, Councillor. During his term as Deputy Reeve he was also proud to represent the town of Forest on County Council. After filling in as a coach for Kevin’s peewee baseball team in 1991, Rick found he had a passion for the sport and continued coaching and supporting baseball teams as a coach and president for over 29 years. For his years of dedication to the sport Rick was inducted into the Sarnia Lambton Sport Hall of fame in 2014. The local Tee Ball program will forever miss Coach Rick and his end of game races and popsicles. Rick has always been involved in the community. He was a life time member of the Forest Fair Board and the official parade starter. He was very proud to be a founding member of Forest Tri-Sport, which raised thousands of dollars for various community projects. Rick could fix anything and could always be counted on to help out or give advice if you had a project. Rick was also a Member of the Board of Directors for several years for the Forestview Villa and Lambtonian Seniors Apartments. The impact that Rick has had on the community will be felt for generations! His passion for a sporty discussion or sticking up for the underdog will be missed! Rick’s legacy can be seen all over town and in the eyes of his three beautiful children and grandchildren! Special thanks to Gord, Angela, and VON nurse Danica.
