To the Smeekens family,
So sorry to just now read about the passing of Cornelius. I used to help him choose books in the two years that I worked at Forest Library (2016 to 2018). He knew of my parents and enjoyed many of the same titles that my father was reading at the time. Thinking of you during this sad time. May pleasant memories bring you peace.

Our deepest sympathies to your family.
I was thinking back how our parents enjoyed visiting and how they enjoyed playing cards together. Apparently they always talked about how they would one day play cards in heaven together. I don't know if you all know but when my Mom passed away Marieta came to my house with a deck of cards. 4520880013162308Someone had to bring the cards. So my Mom has the cards and I imagine the four of them will be visiting and enjoying playing cards together again.

Dear family,
Our condolences on the death of your father, father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather.
As the youngest sister and brother-in-law we knew him as a hard worker who knew what he wanted: to become a farmer and start a family. That prompted him and his wife Ad to leave for Canada in 1953.
They consistently worked on raising a beautiful family and to build a beautiful farm. Together they have made that happen. Thereby their faith has been an important guideline and support.
You will be grateful that your father was able to be with you for so long, in reasonable health. Now that you have to miss him, that is sad. Much strength to bear this loss.
He was very interested in the family in the Netherlands. He often inquired about our ups and downs, but also he was interested. the state of affairs in the Netherlands and how we thought about it. We will missing his phone calls.
We would also like to offer our condolences to Sjef on the death of his brother Kees. As brothers, but especially as friends, they had a lot of support from each other.

Ome Kees was a strong man, a very strong man. He knew what he wanted and went for it. Because of these qualities he turned up in Canada, instead of living in Brabant.
Ome Kees was also interested in others, curious even. Hence his 21 questions. He had questions to ask but also stories to tell, interesting stories. Tante Ad and ome Kees came to visit my friend Katy and myself in the early nineties in our home in Gouda. Their visit meant a lot to me. Ome Kees, rest in peace.

I have had the privilege of working with Case (in elected position) for many years at St Willibrord Credit Union (now Libro Credit Union) I always valued Case's well thought out opinions. gecondoleerd met het verlies van jullie vader en grootvader.
Wat is het overlijden van Cees plotseling gekomen.
Maar gelukkig heeft hij niet hoeven lijden.
Ik zal de maandelijkse telefoontjes missen want we hadden toch wel een bijzonder contact.
Ik ben nog steeds heel blij dat wij 6 jaar geleden de 90ste verjaardag van Cees zijn komen vieren vanuit Holland. Met z'n allen.

My father was having health issues by then and the Smeekens were so helpful to my parents and also visited with them quite often.
