Obituary of Norman William Renton

Peacefully at the North Lambton Lodge on April 5, 2020, in his 98th year, Norman William Renton was laid to rest. He leaves behind his best friend and loving wife Elsie June Renton (nee Scheib). On July 20, 1922, Norman was born to John and Ada Renton in Glasgow, Scotland. With his family, he emigrated to Canada, becoming a citizen in October 1953 and they settled in Toronto. Norman, the oldest of four siblings is predeceased by his brothers Douglas Renton (Carol) and Johnny Renton (Lois) both of the GTA. He is survived by his brother Ian Renton (& Kathe) of Denmark. Norman and Elsie married on the 6th day of April 1968 at the Park Plaza Hotel in Toronto. They spent the next 52 years faithfully supporting each other through life’s ups and downs. Though Norman and Elsie had no children, Norman will be missed by many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family (Renton and Scheib) as well as grand-nieces and nephews. Norman will be especially missed by Derik and Tine Renton and Deanne and Yvon Desgroseilliers who will remember fondly all of the time they were privileged to spend with Norman and Elsie. Norman always chose to look at the positive in life rather than dwell on the negative. He looks forward to the hope expressed in the Bible at John 5:28, 29 that all those in the memorial tombs will hear the voice of Jesus and come to life again; and that this resurrection will take place after God’s Kingdom government takes power. This is the same government that Jesus taught his followers to pray for and many have repeated those words time and again. “Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name, Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven…” (Matthew 6:9-15) Norman looked forward to the time when the whole Earth will be under the best possible leadership, that of Jesus Christ. Jesus promises that under his rulership “death will be no more, neither will mourning, nor outcry, nor pain be anymore.” (Revelation 21:3,4) Norman held fast to his hope that soon “the righteous will possess the earth and they will live forever on it.” (Psalm 37:29) Donations may be made to the worldwide work of Jehovah’s Witnesses through the website JW.org.
