I just heard about Mark's passing and want to express my sorrow but also my appreciation for all the help and guidance I received from mark during my years with the Suburban Collection.
I live in Minnesota now and work for Auto nation ford and train new salespeople and managers. My ability to do this is to a great degree due to the coaching I received from Mark.
Even while here I occasionally called mark for advice and council and I will miss his warm smile and help. The retail automobile business doesn't have many people as well respected as mark. It is such a loss.
Sincerely
Roger Olsen

I am so saddened to hear of Mark's passing. I worked with Mark at the Corporate office for some time when he was there, and in the time I have gotten to know him, I found that he was one of the most positive, up beat people that I have ever met. We did not get to talk much, but we did get to talk about our families and children, he was so proud of his family, and was such a happy person. He was truly an inspiration to me by his example. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of his family.

Margaret Buick posted a condolence

More than 40 years ago, fresh from college, Mark Clemens worked as my husband's assistant in Peterborough as a youth worker.
Mark had strong interpersonal skills, and related well to young people. An empathetic individual, he gained the trust of vulnerable young people who knew they could confide in him, and found him to be a supportive friend. Mark was a gifted musician and communicator. He not only generously shared his talents with the young people, he helped them to discover their own gifts and encouraged them to share them with the wider world. Although he already had a full work schedule, Mark organized a weekly television show on a local cable network where young people spoke, sang, operated the lights and sound systems and arranged the PR themselves. He had innovative methods of raising money for charitable causes such as a breakfast and car wash that was an overwhelming success (and the inspiration for many copycat fundraisers in other times and places). In all of these ways Mark left an indelible mark on an entire generation of young people, including my own children.
Mark was also a tremendous klutz. I remember him dropping a piece of black forest cake on a brand new white shag carpet (this was the 1970s remember). His attempts to clean up the mess only made it much worse. Another time he walked through a patio door. The glass was so clean, Mark thought the door was open so he walked on through. It was like watching the antics in a silent movie.
There was a quietness about his soul. Mark was a deeply spiritual person, and that enabled him to be in tune with the people around him. Psalm 116 says, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." Mark was precious in God's sight, and so we entrust him to the love and mercy of our eternal God who is always working out his purposes despite the confusion of our broken world. The psalm goes on to say, "O Lord, truly I am thy servant...I will pay my vows in the courts of the Lord's house, in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. Praise ye the Lord."
On behalf of my family, I offer my condolences to you. We knew Mark and we loved him; he was a very special person, and we will never forget him.
With love and sympathy,
Margaret Buick

Dear Cindy Sue and Jonathan,
I was very sorry to learn that Mark passed away, and I would like to express my condolences to you.
We do not know each other, but in the 1970s, Mark worked as my Father's assistant in Peterborough.
Mark was a youth worker. I was only a child - 9 and 10 years old, but I remember a patient and kind man who really listened to me without being patronizing - something rather rare for a child to experience. I also remember Mark's vitality. Wherever Mark was, my younger brother and I wanted to be there as well. Mark would include us in youth activities. When he organized a car wash, I never worked as hard in my life, and on another occasion I got dragooned into doing an awful lot of painting. I was always impressed with Mark's gifts as a musician. As the years have passed, I know that many of the young people in Peterborough remember Mark as someone who taught them, mentored them, befriended them, and inspired them. He left a mighty legacy.
We often hear the adage, "It takes a village to raise a child." I am deeply conscious of what I owe to the wonderful people of the village who contributed to my upbringing. Mark Clemens was part of that village. I am very grateful for his generosity of spirit, and his sensitivity to the people around him. I feel privileged to have known him, and I can only imagine your loss.
My experience has taught me that grief is a solitary journey. Despite saying that, I hope that in the days ahead you will be sustained by the love and support of those who are close to you; that you will have a strong sense of what Mark accomplished in his life; and that you will be aware of God's presence in your grief as One who says, "Do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand." (Isaiah 41. 10).
Yours sincerely,
Stephen Buick
