Obituary of Ted Boomer

BOOMER, Mr. Frederick George “Ted” of Forest

After a life well lived, Dad was called home on 7 July 2017 with his family by his side.  Loving husband of 65 years of Janice Irene (Wellington) Boomer.  Loving father of Michael (Leslie) Boomer, Cathy Boomer (Dave Wilkinson) and Nancy Shephard (Bob Cottingham.)    Very special grandfather to Mark Shephard of Forest & Adam (Tricia) Shephard and their children Benjamin Frederick & Madelyn Leigh of Thedford.  Survived by his brother R.B. (Bud) Boomer of Victoria B.C.  Predeceased by his parents Frederick & Georgina Boomer of Owen Sound, sisters Vivian and Louise, and brothers Zane and Gordon.  He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews.  Dad always put others first, ensuring that the needs of family and friends took precedence.  He served in the Canadian Army in WW II.  He was a charter member of the Forest Kiwanis Club, serving as the District Lt Governor twice, receiving the Mel Osbourne award from Kiwanis International for his service.  He was a lifetime elder of the Forest United Church, member of the Legion for many years, and a member of the Forest chapter of the Eastern Star.  His dedication to his community is memorialized in a student award for Volunteerism made in his name each year to an outstanding student at North Lambton Secondary School.  He was driving force in the creation of the Forest Museum and an active member of the Forest Gardening Club.  He also served on the local school board, including becoming its chairman.  An avid woodworker, gardener and amateur bird watcher, he leaves behind an enduring legacy.   Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 9, 2017 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm & 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm at DENNING’S OF FOREST, 9 James Street South, Forest.  A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 10, 2017 at 11:00 am at Forest United Church.  The family encourages donations to the Forest United Church, the Forest Museum, or the Kiwanis Club of Forest, or any of the other clubs or organizations that he supported in lieu of flowers.  Online condolences may be left at www.denning.ca
