Obituary of Jim Nelson Glasgow

GLASGOW, James (“Jim”) Nelson Passed away after a valiant battle against lymphoma at London Health Sciences Centre, London, Ontario on June 5, 2015. Survived by his wife Margaret (“Jean”) of Forest, Ontario; daughter Colleen Webster (Mac) of Forest; and son Kevin Glasgow (Sandy Bennett) of Toronto. Also survived by grandsons William, Duncan, and Scott (Jenna). Predeceased by sister Sarah Jane Bent and brothers-in-law Norman Dickie, Douglas Buchanan, and Gerald Bent. Jim will also be missed by his three sisters in Northern Ireland – Molly Buchanan, Gretta Dickie, and Emma Kilpatrick (John). Beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews in N. Ireland, England, and North America. Born in Cookstown, County Tyrone, N. Ireland on January 25, 1935, Jim – a “sailor Glasgow” – rode the seas to Canada in 1957. His cherished Jean followed in 1959, and together the immigrant couple proudly became Canadians in spirit, if not in accent. Jim pursued a career in retail (and Jean in nursing), raising a family in Exeter, Ontario. A farmer at heart, Jim loved to garden. God was his guiding light, and he served as a church elder (and treasurer) for many years. Although he rarely pampered himself, he was unfailingly generous with family, friends, neighbours, and a variety of good causes. At Jim’s request, there will be no visitation. Instead, a Memorial Service will be held at St. James Presbyterian Church in Forest on Thursday, June 11, 2015, at 11:30 am. Reception to follow in the church basement.
